αὐτοῦ, διότι ἀδύνατος ὢν ἐπεχείρησε τῷ Ἀπόλλωνι χρῆσθαι. μὴ γὰρ ταῦτα
ἀκούσας τὸν Οἰδίποδα οὐκ ἂν ἐξέθηκεν. ὁ δὲ οἴκοι τραφεὶς

both commands of the god, for he begot a son

to `make use of' Apollo when he lacked the

would not have exposed Oedipus, and the latter,
having been reared at home, would not have slain
